Default Throttle Body Heater - Why NOT to bypass it!

Hey guys,

After seeing two different posts of throttle body heater bypass/gasket topics, I thought, perfect, we need a third! ... ok, maybe not, but I did a quick search to answer my own curiosity - Why does it need one anyway!?

I found this pretty nifty little write-up:
WHY Heat The Throttle Body!?

Bottom line - if you're in a climate that can freeze, it's not a bad idea to keep it around.

Just thought I'd share my find,

Dave

The possibility that it can stick the throttle open should not be ignored.

We had freezing fog this week, perfect conditions for a frozen throttle.

Talking about the ducting to carburetors takes me back. I used to love that cheesy paper flex tube they used to have running to the exhaust manifold. Sometimes it was black on the outside, or if you had a snazzy aftermarket replacement one it came with a foil/faux chrome finish.

I always hated that stupid foil tube, it never went back on correctly and always crushed at the ends.

Mine has been by-passed for 9 or 10 years. It has been in the High Sierras, Moab and all over Colorado and never once cause a problem, been in temps of -25 probably because of the high engine compartment temps.

I live in Quebec.

Had to bypass the TBH a couple of summer ago, while on travel because of a major coolant leak.

Later, because of 2/3 broken small screws I had to postpone the leaky gasket replacement job (still not done !).

Now each time the temperature goes below -15 C, the throttle WILL freeze open. When you leave it is free but will eventually jam later on. I even scrapped front discs the first time it happened, because I could not pull over immediately.

François.

This may be a dumb question ( yes there is such a thing) But have you removed it and cleaned it?
If so maybe it needs replacing. You are the only one I have seen that has had trouble. Maybe its just being in Quebec .
I am in Kentucky so weather not as bad here.
Just sayin

and lived to tell about it.... Think about if someone else was driving your truck (SWMBO, GF, Offspring). While you were asleep in the other seat on a long trip.
