Get a scanner.
Read pending codes if any.
Go to scanner live mode
Watch the O2 sensors.
They should go from .1 to .9 volts back and forth.
the two fronts will do this on bank #1 and bank #2.
The 2nd sensors or rear sensors will output a constant voltage depending on how well your catalytic converter is scrubbing.

A normal working O2 will change voltage every second or so.

just a thought, and I'm no expert, but because you had coolant hose work done, if you have an air bubble or any other coolant issues, and you don't have an UG you could be running warm causing the tick... I only know from experience if your running thin oil and getting hot that will cause it. I have a nasty tick that will show up around 220.. I run around 190 now 195 at the warmest. and she runs like a well oiled machine. didn't know till I plugged up the UG and dropped in a motorad 180.. again I'm a total newbie, just passing on personal experience. and don't trust your idiot stick on the dash it will let you run well over 220 and never budge....

You are probably running Synthetic 0W to 40W oil.
Drain your expensive oil out.
get rid of it.
Don't put synthetic into a big, loose low RPM push rod engine like this.
Engine does not appreciate it.
Any Synthetic I have put in turns BLACK after 1000 miles.
Harms it more than helps it.
Put in Rotella 10W -40W non synthetic.
Put in a good Wix oil filter. Not a Fram or some garbage like that.
I bet the tick goes away.
This is a person who has had rovers since December 1996.
So, don't think I am just telling you this for the fun of it.
