Default Timing Belt

Hi Guys.

I have a 95 TDi disco. I was wondering what interval do people think the timing belt should be changed? The original manual says 100 000km, which is of course wrong as most would know the 300Tdi tming belt system had some serious design flaws out of the factory....

The belt was last replaced about 60 000kms ago, complete with all the updated/improved bits (tensioners and stuff).

The Haynes manual says every 60 000kms.

I am wondering with the updated bits, do I still need to stick to the 60 000km service interval, or can it be stretched out a little to say 80 000 or 90 000kms??

Oh yeah, the car is just under 300 000kms, and about to embark on a round Australia trip!!

Thoughts? Comments?

CHANGE THE BELT, Because all the other bits have already been changed it is fairly cheep to do, and it is better than changing an engine some where in the out-back, than you are ok for another 60,000 Ks or os.
Regards Dennis.PS the owner manual was right when it was printed.Land Rover was not supossed to know about the flaw in 1995. wink, wink.

Thanks for the advice Dennis

I spoke to my mechanic today (independant landrover mechanic) and he suggested to go with 80 000km service intervals, so I may go with this. But I do understand your suggestion to change it at 60 000km, I just would rather save the money, and I trust that my mechanics recomendation of 80 000km has a fairly healthy safety margin (well one would hope so with any timing belt service interval, because as you said the results of failure are catostrophic and very expensive).

Still, if anyone else has any experiences with service intervals... (I gather the diesel is a rare beast in the US!!)
