Default Timing chain interval?

I have a 2004 D2 and the timing chain/oil pump were changed about 65k miles ago at 100k miles. The chain was pretty bad according to my mechanic. When should I be planning another change?

I have two over 230k on original. If you change oil every 5k and use 15w40, probably around 365k.

If the previous owner neglected maintenance like my truck, around 100k-150k miles. My timing chain was stretched past spec at 118k. Compared with the post above, it really shows the importance of a good maintenance schedule

Thanks guys. I've always used good synthetic oil (M1 High Mileage 10w40) with 5k O&F changes so I expect that I'll be in good shape for some time.

If you replaced your factory chain with anything made in the last 5 years you might want to think about changing it again.

My chain was replaced in 2015. I recently bought a new chain/oil pump kit. Is there an issue with the newer chains? All of them or certain brands?

Thank you!

Chains will go a very long time without failing, but they do stretch. Even with good oil and OE chains, there will probably be enough stretch in the chain by 100,000 miles to have a (slightly) noticeable affect on power. I wouldn’t take it apart to replace the chain at that point, but if I had the cover off for another reason I’d change it.
