Too much timing chain play?
Hello,
What do you think is this too much play in the timing chain? Or is this pretty normal for a 200K mile Discovery II?

Thanks

To answer your questions. Yes and Yes. That is a lot of play in the timing chain, but with 200k on the engine I would expect that. The chain and sprockets are only about $100 bucks so I would change it while you are there.
I changed my timing chain about a month ago and it looked almost just like that. I only had 100k on the engine, but I went ahead and ordered a new one. After putting the new chain on the difference was obvious and there was almost no play in the new chain at all.
Also, That ticking noise the old chain makes when you mess with the slack will not be there with the new chain.

I bought the timing chain kit from AtlanticBritish.com
I have some pictures and info in a thread I did a while back."Doing a major 100k service" and page 6 is the timing chain stuff.
