Default Timing Cover Gasket...or jb weld?

Ok I finally got around to tracking the coolant leak issue I've been having and mentioned a while ago in another post (haven't been driving it in that time don't worry).

I initially thought it was my valley pan gasket since I replaced it a few months ago and could see coolant pooling up right under it, right above the water pump. It was very difficult to see with the accessory bracket in the way.

After tearing it down getting ready for the replacement I dried up the coolant pool and it started filling from the bottom.

Now comes my issue. I am super broke and this is my only vehicle (I guess you could say I'm into pain since I own a disco as a single vehicle). Should I just jb weld the leak point or is it futile to the point I should just do the gasket. I REALLY don't want to have to do an oil pan drop and gasket etc etc etc as well especially since it is parked in an already difficult enough spot to work on.

in my (mostly useless) opinion, and with extensive practice in the art of jb welding. it is going to be difficult to make any type of lasting repair with jb. coolant, heat, and topical jb band aid,not perfect combo. that being said, if you try and it doesn't work...you're left with the same problem. you wouldn't be hurting anything, just some jb to clean off. fwif, if i had to, i'd try it, but would not count on it.

Coolant is under pressure passing out each side of the timing cover. JB Weld does not have same rate of expansion as aluminum. May not hurt anthing, but may not last long. Gasket for TC is about $8, but as you say it is more than a 10 minute job. And you have use something for water pump, and a can of Right Stuff gasket maker for the oil pan gasket, and a front crank seal.

Sure it is not the water pump gasket? I used RTV on mine.

Yeah it is definitely from the timing cover, you can see in the attached picture. Takes about 30s for residual coolant to fill that little pocket back up stone cold once dried with a paper towel.

I have also heard that Loctite can be had in a very thin green color liquid that "wicks" into a joint. My little spot like yours keeps filling with oil coming from valve cover. Guess they built that into the casting there so we could find the leak easier...

I wouldn't mind trying loctite but it keeps filling up before i'd be able to add anything. The engine is apart still...just 2 pulleys, the oil pan and strainer and I could take the cover off...but as I said before too difficult and too much more of an undertaking to change out the gasket. FML

It is filling up because there is water level above it, let coolant run out lower hose....

Be careful if it is the timing cover gasket and it starts leaking internally then it could seriously damaged your engine. Our timing cover gasket failed leaking coolant into our oil pan via the timing chain and destroyed the bearings and needing now a complete rebuild. I would personally change the gasket properly.

That is a good point, if leaking in one spot, others are not far away. In fact, fixing this leak will put more pressure on the other spots.
