Default Tire Size?

Currently I'm running 255/55r16s on my 04. I want bigger tires, and eventually a lift and am just curious what tire size looks good/better on stock. Do I really need the 255 width? Or would a more narrow tire work better? I don't really do much off roading....or mudding. And can I even run a narrower tire on the stock 16s I'm using.

if you don't go off road why do you need a lift and taller tires? its going to put strain on your drive train and kill your gas mileage.

I'm stock and running 255/70/16. It gives you one inch in height. 29.5 vs 30.5. Mine are cooper discoverer ATR's.

I'm running 255/70/16 Goodyear Silent Armor with no problems and so far, I love this tire. Recently replaced the original Michelin XPC 255/65/16 and the Goodyear is a better tire for what I use the truck for.

I have 255/70/16 and no issues. I wanted something narrower like 245 or 235 but they only had 255 in stock. I think you can go down to 235 on the stock rims, but check with the tire supplier.
In the photo 255/70/16 on the rear and 255/65/16 (stock size) on the front. No lift. Trying to decide which rims to go with... hence different wheels front and back.

I vote for the front rims.

245/75 16 are the largest you can fit stock without rubbing.

My 02 has your front rims and my 01 has your rears. Hmmm. I have a set of 16 inch spyders also, and a set of 18's. 18's and the ones on my 02 are off my parts car's and the ones on my wifes 01 are off my 02 and the 16 inch spyders are off her 01. Whew. Oh and I really like my Cooper Discoverer, pretty quiet also.
