Default Tire size conflict?

I saw somewhere one these forums that the biggest tire size I could go up to is a 245/75/16..
I called a place and they said the 04 Disco 2 requires a 255 size and thay the 245 width is way too small..
Can anyone confirm or deny this claim??
Is 255/75/16 the biggest I can go??

The stock size is 255/65-16, but 245/75-16's or 255/70-16's will also work, they are about an inch taller.

Way too small? That's one reason I hate forums... people can write something and someone else will believe them regardless of facts/experience.

Plus in you look at say tirerack.com and look at the specs a 255/65/65 has a 7.8" tread width and the 245/75/16 has a 7.5" tread width.

What is important is the suggested rim widths. If that particular tore states an 8" rim is ok, then you're ok. It varies from tire to tire.

OK so you guys are running the 245/75/16s without issue then I'm fine doing it....
What about the H rated performance rating?? Is that an issue as well???

Meh, that's overrated. I've got 315/75/16 KM2's on stock D1 alloys.
