I finally got around to wiring my Disco with the 7-round trailer plug. Did a really pretty install that looks like it came from the factory that way. I was proud of it until I plugged my trailer in and nothing happened. Needless to say I was a little frustrated after all my work to find that I did something wrong. So I start doing my troubleshooting. Checked the fuses, all good. Made sure the plug was plugged in all the way, good there. Removed the access panel to make sure none of my connections broke when I closed it up, all good. Finally out of frustration I grab the ground wire for the trailer socket and touch it to metal. Trailer lights flicker. Touch it again and hold it, lights stay on. Then the moment of DUH, it needs the ground hooked up to send power to the trailer. So I slipped the ring terminal over the bolt holding the socket to the bracket and everything is good.

And now for the really bad part of all this. I have enough credits in electronics from my air force tech school for a 2-year degree. I shouldn't be missing the obvious stuff like that.

I'll try to get some pictures to post but I used the trailer wiring harness of AB that just plug is then got an adapter and mounting bracket from Camping World to go from 4-flat to 7-round. The adapter had a 4-flat plug on so you can just plug it in and unplug it if you need the 4-flat but I cut that off and hooked the wires up permanently since I have a 7-round to 4-flat adapter for those rare occasions I need just 4-flat. The 4-flat to 7-round adapters are available at any auto parts store.

I actually drilled a hole and ran the wires in wire loom through a grommet rather than trying route the wires out the door and back under the truck without being ugly. Inside the truck you'll find the 7 pin plug and a purple wire and a green/brown wire. The purple wire is connected to the black wire on the adapter for the battery charge line, the green/brown wire is for the back-up lights and goes to the purple wire on the adapter if you need back up lights on the trailer. Make sure to attach the white wire on the adapter to a good ground point or nothing will work, as I learned the hard way.
