Yes, the LR4 has great power and terrible diffs, so bad, I think they are guaranteed to fail. Rover can't keep up with the warranty replacements.

I'm in the same boat...my wife moved from obsessing about the Range Rover to the LR4....saves us $30K

That sucks, I thought the LR4 was too good to be true...hopefully this will be fixed soon on the production line.

I would lease the truck for her, so not TOO worried about longevity. I do love most things on it though, and also looking at a boat that I would need to tow and that would fit the bill.

Why can't Land Rover build ANYTHING without something falling apart? They certainly ask enough money for these things!!!

Whats failing with the Diff's? Don't the LR3's have ****ty diffs also? Do they just need a thrust bolt or something?

I drove the LR4 wanting to love it, and felt it was bigger (American-sized) and air suspension was too floaty compared to my Discovery. When we went to the dealer, we were seriously ready to buy it, and the salesman couldn't believe it when after the test drive we said we liked our old one better.

Don't you guys think the ride feels different (i.e. not as good)? Just curious...

I liked the riding and handling of it. My Disco has the ACE, so it stays nice and level in the corners, but otherwise feels/acts like a truck (duh to me as it is!). The LR4 feels 1000% more refined. Handling is crisp, it is not floaty to me, just not as harsh as the Disco. Due to the axles, the Disco is loose/squirrely over bumps (especially in corners) which the LR4 is not. In general, my wife really does not like the ride/feel of the Disco. She prefers more of a sporty ride, crisp feel and easy drive-ability. We shopped the Disco in 04, and she picked the Acura MDX over it, and the LR3 in 07 and she picked the Infiniti FX35 over it, and in 09 picked the CX9 GT over it (OK, I really did most of the picking). This time it is high on the list again, along with the MDX, CX9, FX, X5 and Q7

The Discovery has one thing on the LR4. It's a timeless vehicle, the same cannot be said of the LR models imo.

You can also mod the crap out of our trucks. It's what land rovers are all about.

Disco Fries --

Thanks for your observations. I guess I'll need to go back and test drive the LR4 again with a more open mind. But first, it looks like I'll wait to see if LR sorts out the differential issue Disco Mike mentioned.

Fortunately, the Disco's running great right now so there's no rush

P.S. I admire your garage - that Audi S4 must be fun. Have you modded it?
