Default Too skeered to go wheelin' in my Disco. Give me confidence!

The title says it all. In my year and 1/2 of ownership, the Land Rover experience has so far meant that I open my wallet a lot.

I've watched plenty of Youtube videos and followed the trail rides of several posters here, but I'm just too leery of taking my Disco off road too much.

It's not about driver ability, but rather a matter of breaking stuff and creating expensive repairs for myself.

As it stands, the oil pump was replaced 10k or so ago, I've had to do the 60k service 10k early, I've replaced both front and back coil springs on the driver's side, and all brakes had to be redone. Currently, I'm troubleshooting electrical gremlins. However, I have added an aftermarket brush guard with a Warn winch and OEM lamp guards all around.

Even though these trucks can take some abuse, I'm fearful that I'll get out somewhere and even more things start failing.

I can't be the only relatively new owner out there with these apprehensions...

Anyone care to chime in?

You need to have faith man, its all about faith.
If you believe it then so it will be.
If you think you will break down then you will, if you believe that you will make it back home then you will.
It's all about blind faith, do you believe in God? You can't see him but he is there, same thing with your Rover.
Do you think I could do this every year without faith in my truck?

Avoid rocks and logs and deep water and you will be fine. Go Slow and don't rush anything, think before you hit the gas and use the brakes. Good luck, have fun!

just find a long mellow trail. you're not gonna break anything.

then work your way up with comfort. your truck can take some serious abuse. it's a different kind of wear than traditional maintenance.

i've never had an off road vehicle (passenger) that was NOT my daily driver. it's kinda fun to push the limit just far enough to where you don't break something.

but, admittedly, i look forward to having a decided off-roader. THATs when it will get expensive.

I always "look" for logs / rocks and ESPECIALLY deep water!!!

On a another note, its advisable to go WITH somone who has been out before, if either of you get stuck you have another vehicle to recover it, wheelin on your is not "ideal".......and always have atleast tow rope with you. the list can go on and on tbh.....

"Just go man", get out there and have fun, I have literally beat the crap out of a D90, RRC, DI and never broke anything with the exception of the RRC front diff but that was all on me being mad and stupid, just take it slow like the other guys said, avoid deep water and watch the rocks!

When I go off road for an all day affair I take off my front bumper and fogs and remove the washer fluid bottle. This only takes an hour or so and will save thousands if you plan on going on hilly terrain with the stock suspension.
