My Dodge diesel got 13 mpg towing a 7000 trailer from Alaska to Arizona. Truck and trailer together were 15,000. Empty on the highway I usually got about 19 but I had a 6-speed manual and 3.54 gears. For a 2500 quad cab long box with 33 inch mud terrains I was happy with 19. When I cranked my chip up so the truck was running at 400 hp and 900 torque I still got 16 on the highway.

It is my understanding the exhaust gases emitted by diesels are actually less toxic to the environment than gas engines. That is why they only test for the particulate output rather than specific gases during a diesel emissions test. The most common reason given for not importing diesels is that it is not cost effective to make the necessary changes in emissions equipment to meet US standards. The auto makers have decided they won't sell enough diesels to make it pay. They don't realize that diesel sales here in the states are not as high as other places because the availability is not there.

Needless to say, I would love to see diesel Rovers here in the states. A diesel LR3 as my daily driver and a diesel D110 as the weekend toy.

Are you being sarcastic about the AK-47 round through the foot?
