I've done the inline mod and highly recommend it.
However, before I did that, my T left me stranded on the highway one day. The fix (which lasted for years and would last a lifetime) was a metal plumbing T with three threaded nipples and three hose clamps. You lose the bleed screw but that's a part that will never, ever, fail. Cost was about 16 bucks plus two gallons of water to get me home.

Take the advice of people that suggest going inline, now that T is broken, you will be very satisfied afterward,
a good replacement T-stats for inline will cost under $10 when need to be replaced, consistent temp's & cooler running engine is the benefit,
(The only downside is you will get tired of looking at temp, because it stays very consistent & never gets to danger zone if you don't have any leaks,!)
