Default Towing a D2 with a D2?

I'm thinking about picking up a donor d2. It's about 5 hours away. Am I crazy to think of picking it up and towing it home on a trailer with my 2001 D2?

Its never crazy to pick up a donor truck, mines saved me thousands in repairs. After I picked it to the bone I still sold it for crush weight. Which was $550 but when you only pay $1000 for it then you definitely come out ahead.
Is your trailer braked? I wanna say its 3,000 pounds without a braked trailer and in high. 6,000 with brake controller and in low. I may be off. Someone els will probably chime in with a more help

I thought a Disco weight was about 4000 pounds.
Disco I can tow 5500 pounds in high with a braked trailer.
7500 pounds (7700?) in low.

Hmm, the sticker on the inside of my door says my 2001 D2 weighs 6064 lbs.

With a braked trailer, yes you can.

That is gross weight. Gross weight is the maximum operating weight, includes passengers and cargo. Curb weight is around 4500.

x2...it would be one hell of a long trip!

Go with a u-haul trailer, they have surge brakes so you don't have to worry about any wiring other than the flat 4 for taillights.

Do you have something to measure engine temperature? like an ultraguage or similar?

Where is the trip to/from? Mtns? or flat land driving?

I would do it with my 2000 DII, but I would take it VERY easy. Make sure to check that coolant level before heading out, and top off if needed. Oil too!

I do have an ultra gauge and recently completed Disco Mike's major service list in it's entirety. I'm totally confident in my D2, I thought the truck was 6000 pounds though, which with the trailer seemed way over the suggested limit. But I see now it's less and with the trailer within range. It's a relatively flat stretch from florida to Birmingham AL. But the owner now thinks he can get $1500 for a 2002 with a cracked head and smashed rear door. No way I'm paying that much!
