Default Towing with a lift 1,000 miles?

Long story short I am moving soon. A U-haul 4x8 trailer is $165 to rent, compared to those POD services which are $1000+

My disco is about as well maintained as could be. I have a 3" lift and 235/85R16 tires. Would you tow a 1,000-2,000 pound trailer 1,000 miles? Pros, cons?

jeff,
as meticulous as you are, I wouldn't hesitate. I tow a trailer to auburn football games every year with mine with about the same load and don't hesitate with it. Some of my route is hilly and stop and go but I'm still sitting on a stock height. My round trip is about 300 miles and I make that usually 9 times a year and then there are a few added away games that are around 600 miles plus. That's just my two cents though

Dude, your Disco can tow up to 5500lbs. Don't worry about it. I own an off-road tent trailer that comes in at just under 3000lbs full and i've towed it on some frigging steep off-road trails and also many long hyw's all good.
Oh and i've got a 4" lift and 33's

Hi, I've been towing a full load of 3500 kgs (7700lbs) at speeds of 70-80 mph for years with a D2 TD5, admittedly with no lift or mods and on highways but with air suspension and never experienced any issues. I don't know what the towing limit is in the US but the D2 is quite capable up to 3500 kgs or more.

Towed a similar trailer from South Florida to DC last fall, no problems. And that was with blowing a head gasket along the way. So yeah, you should be good.

I've got 3.5" lift and 32s with the V8. On multiple occasions I've pulled heavy loads, up to 7200 lbs, on curvy mountain roads and on the highway at 60mph. No issue what so ever.

Great, I figured it wouldn't be a problem but wanted to check due to all the steering and suspension modifications.

What's the best tow package (wiring harness and hitch)? AB sells one for ~$120? AB also sells this Land Rover Discovery Series II Trailer Hitch: Bolt-On, 2 Inch Receiver but I have no idea why you'd get it, the car already has that thing right?

Jeff, check with your insurers that you are covered for towing and whether they approve the proposed make of tow hitch. It's worth a phone call as insurers like to wriggle out of anything IMO.

You can get a used OEM hitch for way less than that on eBay. Here's one that includes the bolts.

When I installed mine I just went to walmart and got a universal plug and wired it in to my tail light wiring.

Well it appears I already have the receiver

So all I need is the hitch and wiring harness.

The LR manual says not to exceed a drop of 3". But since I have a lift, what hitch should I get?

I don't feel like splicing wires this time around, so I'll just get the AB harness
