towing weight
my family and I are moving out of state, and instead of renting a box truck, I found a great deal on an enclosed trailer. However, after loading the trailer and hooking up the D2 we were ready to ride! Well, at least that's what I thought. The D2's suspension was to soft to handle the load. Went for a short test drive and found the set up to be almost uncontrollable even at low speeds.
So, my question is this: I have the Coil spring conversion on the rear end, replacing the Air bag system. Would the air bag system actually work better for towing. If not, what can be added to allow for more weight to be towed? Thanks

yeah, air bags are better for towing. A weight redistribution hitch will help.

Get some airbags that go inside the coils. Firestone and airride makes them. I put some on a f250 with a camper and it raised it to normal height. You might want to get firmer shocks to keep it from bouncing around to much and for less sway. I bought the OME heavy duty shocks for mine, thay work good.

You need to load the bulk of the weight over the trailers axle(s) and NOT on the tounge (nose) of the trailer.
Dont load all the weight behind the axle either as it will lift the back of your truck and make it unstable that way too.
Upping the PSI in the rear truck tires will help too, put them at 5 PSI below max pressure on the sidewall.
So if max PSI is 70 put them at 65 and then lower them back down after to get to where you are going.

I need to add, the tounge weight is only 500lbs, so that means no more than 500lbs can be sitting on the trailer hitch but you can tow 5500lbs in the US.
7000lbs with the exact same truck in the rest of the world.

the rule of thumb is 10% trailer & load weight on tongue, if you ***-load the trailer - I guarantee it will be exciting!!!
The weight shifts during acceleration - the excitement starts as you even off or slow down!!
I agree on the airbags as temps - but watch your weight distribution.
luck,greg
