If you can find a T case and linkage form an 04 it is a direct bolt on. Then sell yours to make up some of the difference. A '99 or '00 might work too.

Mike,

Are all Disco Transfer Cases CDL ready/convertable?
Late 2001 to 2003 are not lockable. YOu have to change out the case. They came back with it in 04.... YOur 02 won't have it, sorry..

disco03hse: You can't lock, and someone else may be able to suggest chains...
When can I call you? or you can call me petty much and day between 7am and 8pm in Colorado at 303-862-7680.

traction problems? I have only got stuck once, and it was a clearance issue. I got high centered on my bumper cover, solved that by taking that off. I have been through over a foot tallof straight mud, been through sand, 2 feet deep of water, and never got stuck. Even stopped in most cases and then went on again without a problem.

thanks! I guess I've never taken my Disco to its limits and I'm just one of those types that wants all the bells and whistles to be "prepared".

So i take it that my '03 without Center Dif Lock will be fine out in the snow and not have issues with traction provided that I have: 1. good tires 2. maybe snow chains (still waiting for some advice on what type to chains to get out in the snow).

Here are 2 pictures taken at the first snow, here in Colorado 2 months ago. Send me your e-mail address and I'll send you some pictures. This 03 with front chains did well on a run with us on a bed of ice and 6 to 12"s of fresh powder. The 03's have an upgraded ETC over earlier D2's and you'll be just fine with some good tires. Have any idea what tire size and style you will be using?

Hold the phone here. Late '01sto '03s are not lockable. Might you have a list of 2001 VIN's which are lockable? I am coming close to buying my Disco II but I want to make sure I purchase the right one. Sorry for deviating from the original topic.

Justin,
Only the first 3 months production of the 01's all the 00's and 99's had a CDL t/case, the rest of the 01's, 02's and 03's don't and hence can not use lockers in either diff.
If you send me your e-mail, I can send you a picture of a t/case with the locking nipple installed.

The CDL is a MUST HAVE!!! My wife and I took the kids sledding on Tues and we were following snowmobile trails to get to the hills and boy were those guys pissed when they saw a LR sitting ontop of a 30ft hill in almost 12in of snow. And we just have allseason Michelins.
We had a blast.

Hey Mike! Thanks for the quick reply. I just took a looksie at at an '04 Disco and on the 4WD shifter it says "Diff-Lock". Is the '04 equipped with a diff that is lockable from the passenger cabin?
