Traction Control issue
Hi, I'm new to this forum, but not to LR products, having owned several RR in the past.
My dashboard doesn't have any of the three amigos lights. In fact, at starting, it performs the check up, and everything seems normal. The problem is when I encounter a situation in which the TC should work, I only hear some noises as if the abs unit would try to brake one of the wheels, but won't succeed. In the dirt, I tried it on a slippery surface, and again, the vehicle didn't move, the wheels were spinning, I heard noises like it was "trying" to work, but it didn't apply the brakes to any of the spinning wheels.
I'm going to scan it, but the weird thing is that none of the lights come or stay lit. And they do show in the dashboard, son nobody painted them.
Can someone shed some lights as to what may be wrong? I'm going to update this thread when I scan the car.

Could be many things. If you have original calipers, brake lines and old fluid/needs bleeding, it could be some or all of those. Bad wheel sensors or wiring to them, bad Slabs or wiring, ABS pump, etc. Like Abran said, check for codes first, if no codes, start inspecting components. Any D1 or 2 with original calipers and/or brake lines is old enough that they s/b replaced by now.
First of all, José, welcome to the DII forum. We're glad to have you. You're the first here from Guatemala that I recall.
Are you absolutely certain that the traction control isn't working at all? If you can hear it trying to work I don't understand what the problem could be. Downstream of the modulator it's just the standard hydraulic brake system. If your brakes are working well otherwise they'd be working when traction control is working.
If by "trying to work" you mean you can hear the modulator opening and closing valves and feel the pulsations in the brake pedal maybe it's working fine but the situations in which you're needing it to stop a wheel spinning completely are just too much for it.
To test a little more, try having someone else standing near the truck to see what the slipping wheel is doing in the slippery situations. Is it spinning freely or is it spinning intermittently? Or better yet, perhaps, have someone else driving while you stand nearby to watch.
Not long after we got our DII I got stuck in a wet, grassy place. The left rear wheel was spinning while the other three wheels were not moving. I didn't get out to see how the wheel was spinning and it was over 15 years ago so I don't recall whether or not I heard or felt the modulator working. I didn't yet have the center differential lock enabled in the truck. Also, I probably wasn't as aware of the systems and how they worked back then anyway. But I know the system works.

I have an 04 and I get that thing to come on just accelerating hard, from stop, on loose gravel. The only time I hear anything is in hill descent mode.
I would suggest doing as jwehking suggested with one small change find a short hill preferably with no traffic.
Put you truck in low and just let it idle down the hill no brakes no gas after you get it going.
Then do the same with hill descent engaged you truck shuold brake and make a slower trip down the hill.

As stated before your situation might have been a little to much for the traction control. One technique to play with and perfect is left foot braking. You hold the brake enough while accelerating slowly to help assist the braking of the spinning wheel and redirect power. Takes some practice but give it a shot if all the system checks out ok.
Hi guys, I checked with the scanner and no codes were found. I then, went to a moderately deep hill, put on low gear and HDC, and off I went. The HDC lights started to blink in the dashboard, and an intermittently beep was heard. I have never used HDC, my previous Rovers didn't have them, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't working. Maybe that trigger some codes to appear, I will try to use the scanner later in the day to check that. All and all, I couldn't tell if the car was braking with the HDC, maybe I need a steeper hill.
