Trailer wiring, possible?
I have a 99 D2 and want to tow a small utility trailer. I noticed the truck is not wired for this and asked the local dealer about it. The story I got was about a sensitive bulb diagnosis system that could be damaged if I wire the truck with an aftermarket trailer harness. The parts guy proceeds to explain that I need a $220 Rover unit to safely do this.
Is it possible to just pig-tail into the truck harness (done thist before on domestic trucks) or the socketslike other vehicles without issues?
I don't even own a trailer, just renting one to litterally go pick up a Christmas Tree and will only use this once, so I think $220 is a little much for a one trip deal.
Thanks - David

Hey David,
I attempted to splice the connection (located behind the passenger side tail light) on my 1999 D2 about a year ago. I think it might be possible but I'm not electrically inclined so I decided to take the safe root and buy the connector. I would recomend that you go to www.roverparts.com (Atlantic British) and get their aftermarket connector for $100 rather then go to the stealership and fork over $220. It works perfectly for me. Hope that helps.

Weird, mine had the harness already available in the passenger tail light. Was this just specific to MY '04?

I bought a wiring kit from Wal Mart for 17$ and spliced into the plug behind the tail light. If I remember correctly you have to get the universal kit for independent turn signals and connect the colors as follows:

The wiring graph didn't copy correctly in the previous post.

I bought the trailer lights harness from Atlantic British for $100 - Just plug it in to the prewired connector block inside the LHS tail light cavity, and run the harness down through the opening at the bottom and straight out to your hitch - Super easy! Changing out a flat would have been harder.
