Tranny temp light questions

Hello, I have a 99 Disco2. My transmission temp. light is coming on. My problem is I do not know why. I thought I was having brake problems at first or e-brake problems. I checked my rotors they are fine, but I keep hearing a break pad noise. It feels like a brake caliper dragging. Any ideas would help. thank you
