Transmission
I have 03 Discovery SE7 , the transmission, when put into reverse, will not engage nor will the indicator lights on the dash/console come on. However the other gears work fine. Any suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the filter were plugged it would effect all gears. Have you checked the fluid level, does the fluid smell burned?
I would suggest you find a tranny shop that can do a full chemical flush, or do your own fluid/filter change adding a bottle of Lucas tranny additive to it.

Clogged trans filter, the first gear to go is always reverse, if you put it in reverse and let it sit running in reverse for several min it will probally go into reverse.
If you let it go your forward gears will be next.

On the 03 DII, the engine ECU and the transmission ECU are sitting on a CAN network. The engine and transmission ECUs come up under generic OBD II scan using a basic scanner like the one at Autozone.
Have your ECUs scanned and see what fault codes do you have and let us know. If you get P0722 fault code, then it is an internal transmission issue. Have the guy print it out the freeze frame data.
I doubt it is the filter or the fluid because you have normal drive forward pattern without slippage or flaring or delay, but when you take the pan off to service it look for bits and pieces of the clutch friction material, if none is present and the fluid & filter are clean than it is not an internal transmission problem. The XYZ switch can contribute to this symptom.
