Lightbulb Transmission

Hey fellow rover folks. Been a while since I had a question. looked via search and didn't find exacly what my issue is. My transmission has been acting funny for the past few weeks. doesn't seem to want to shift properly... i.e. wants to shift higher up the rpm band. Also noticed that when I put it into Sport mode it wants to swap over to M and stays there. Transmission Fluid is good and have checked the battery and altiernator at autozone and they said both were ok. Any wisdom would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply... was planning a fluid change soon... battery is about 3 1/2 year red top optima. I understand the tip top thing... I'm leaning toward the battery even though the test said it was good. Batteries just don't seem to last.

Mike or Spike,

Any other thoughts regarding my issue? I may not respond right away as we have a plumbing issue I'm dealing with.

Thanks ahead of time

With the transfer case in "high" I don't think you should be able to put the transmission in "M" mode. This makes me wonder if the discovery thinks that the transfer case is in "low" for some reason.

Replacing the fluid and filter? Whats the step by step process to do this yourself? I have a slow leak and am wondering if I can add or replace the Tran Fluid myself?

Jafir,

I guess that is a posibility as my hi low is currently not functional and I have an 04 lever in the garage ready to go in when I get a chance.

Sounds like low battery voltage to me.
It could also be the XYZ switch, but a battery is the cheaper place to start.
I dont trust the autoparts people 100% when it comes to checking the battery and alternator.
I dont think they can tell "marginal" from bad.
And as I understand it if the DII does not have exactly all the electrical power it needs it will goof up.

A couple of years ago I had a battery that kept going dead, had AutoZone test battery and alt, they said my battery was bad.
Replaced it for free under warranty.
3 days later...dead battery.
Replaced alt and all was right with the world once again.

Spike,

I was thinking the same thing. Alt seems ok per the scan guage. 13.3 to 13.8 when rolling. when first cranking and cold it is in the 14s. My rovertym bumper is coming in next week and I will be getting a winch so I was planning to get a new battery... looking at the Sears blue top deep cycle.
