I have a 2001 Discovery. Stupid question, but where the heck is the Transmission Fluid Dipstick? Looked all over the engine compartment and didnt see it.

passenger side of the engine compartment back by the fire wall. welcome to the forum, no such thing as a dumb question. if you have one the exact location is in the owners manual in the maintainencce section. if I can help in any way, let me(us) know. hope it helps, gotta love a rover. duboff

There is no dipstick. Fluid level is checked via a plug on the pan.

The procedure is, Start engine cold, put in neutral, remove plug 8 mm allen from the front of the trans pan whilst running. Fluid should just drip out. The drain plug is on the bottom of the pan, 6 mm.

What a pain. I was going to add some transmission treatment. How can I get it into the pan?

Ahh... I think this was one of the reasons for deletion of the dipstick. No "treatments" are needed.

Filter replacement is only needed once @30K. If you tow, change the fluid every 30K.
