Man, that is not good. Never seen that before and I have had 25+ trucks. Most likely either cracked torque converter or bad front seal, either one requires the transmission or engine to come out. How many miles on the truck? Any other work need doing? Engine out lets you fix trans as well do lots of things to the engine easily.

it has 155k miles but just had a reman AB engine go in about 1k miles ago. I’ll give an update on when I find out what happened. Sounds like it might need a new transmission as well.
The shop that I brought it to (Ed's British 4x4) recommended swapping in a rebuilt transmission from rover land parts. He doesn't know exactly what caused the issue yet, but will keep the forum updated.
@Extinct , is there anything that you would specifically recommend addressing that is easy to access while the transmission is out? Like I said, the car just got a remanufactured engine from Atlantic British, and also has a new power steering pump & water pump. I am new to the platform (just bought this car a month ago) but I have already installed a 180 degree thermostat from your company. Any recommendations on parts that should be replaced while the trans is out would be much appreciated.
This happened to us once. I just finished installing a new radiator and the quick release fittings on the transmission cooler apparently didn't seat all the way and blew off after my wife drove it 10-ish miles. Good mems. But yeah, check that fitting too.

For sure you want to have the transfer case center shaft o-rings replaced - several threads on here and videos on youtube on how to do it (I wrote up one). Be sure to check the transfer case shifter for hi-lo and cdl locking function, ideal time to replace the cables if any are siezed from rust (its a thing). Driveshaft should come out and get thoroughly greased. Y pipe will have to get dropped, so that is the time to do exhaust gaskets if they are less than perfect from your engine swap.
