Default transmission fluid question

Ok , so my filler plug was messed up a bit and I went to replace it. Got my Disco level went underneath and after some hard work managed to get the old one loose, so far so good.

When I went to take the old plug out I got a stream of fluid out not a trickle, the loss was relatively minor as I had the new plug beside me so a fast change over, maybe a quarter of liter at the most lost. My concern of course is was my transmission over filled or was my disco simply not level enough.

The fluid was nice bright red, so no signs of contamination.

The flow was stopped by the new plug not drainage

Too much fluid can cause problems. Was the truck running when you checked?

I would check the level again with the engine running and in neutral, I believe that is how you are suppose to check the level. You should have a small steady stream coming out, if that is the case you are good.

Running. And buy a disco 1 pan. It comes with a dipstick and bolts right up.

d2 transmission is supposed to be filled with the engine running. with the engine off the fluid level inside the case is quite a bit higher, so it flows out quite quickly.

Thanks to all who responded, I re-read the notes and RAVE so that was an oops on my part. But easy to rectify at least.

To shanechevelle. I didn’t know you could bolt up a DI pan. Is this a retro kit that someone sells?

no kit, just get one from one of the forum parts sellers, get the dipstick too.
