Default Transmission Lifespan?

Just curious here, I have 96 Disco with over 160k on it and I'd like to think I take care of it fairly well. All synthetics, premium only, change fluids on time, address problems as early as I can etc. How long do our ZF automatics last with proper service? How many miles does everyone have before any major Tran work? For that matter whats the most miles you have seen on a well running Disco?

I saw one a week ago in a 2000 with 272,000 miles on it. This is pushing the upper limit put they are good trannts.
Consider doing a drain and refill only every 15,000 miles to help it along.

As long as you change the ATF frequently (2 years or 30K miles) it should last well past 200K (at least that is what I am hoping for with mine).

I put a Filtermag on my ZF and it picked up quite a bit of ferrous material when I dropped the pan a few thousand miles later.

All you can do is change the ATF regularly and hope for the best. From all that I have read on this forum the ZF is a solid transmission and gives very few people trouble.

Cheers,

Pete

There is a guy on here with a 95? and he has 270+ on his truck with no major work ever done to it and he is the original owner.
The ZF tranny is bullit proof.
