The sensors are know to be "iffy" and the usual occurance is the fact you get the temp light on the dash, changing the oil etc makes no difference if the sensor is duff. The problem is that the NAS vehciles you guys have are fitted with 2 sensors wired togther, 1 in the autobox oil cooler and 1 in the transfer case, so it could be either thats on the way out.

If you was "overhere" (uk) I would say its the auto box one, but because you have 2, it could obviously be either. Im not sure if they are the same part or not which would make things easier as you could swap them out to see which it is, but I will look it up and edit the post to reflect the info I find

EDITED ---- Different part numbers for each one, so it could be a lottery. Also you dont "have" to tear the front end off to get to the autobox cooler one, you can probably go through the access panel in passenger side wheel arch.

On the other hand, there could be a problem and this should be delt with sooner then later. Yes the sensors can fail, and do, but if you are having an actual over heat it can be checked easily by a mechanic with a good scanner who can read the actual operating temp signals and decide from there what to do.

 

I had this problem before. It was because the mechanice forgot to plug the sensor back after he unplugged it for unknown reason.

2000 disc ii 105k runs like a top, just came cross country with no issues
i noticed the light was comming on after the engine runs for an hour or so, and its pretty consistent, fluid and filter has been changed, tranny feels and shifts great
i guess the next step is to get the temp checked while the light is on
