Default Transmission question.

I am trying to open my Rave Manuel on a apple and it isn't working. Guess I will need to get a Windows OS computer tonight.

I have a small leak and want to see if it is low. Here is the stoopid question. Where is the dip stick? I can't seem to find it.

no dip stick on a DII. You need to get under the truck and check the filler hole. It is on the front side of the tranny pan. You may want to take it to a shop to check if you aren't sure what you are looking for. YOu will need an allen wrench to remove the filler plug. Proper level is determined by a small bit of fluid coming out of the filler hole when the plug is removed. Make sure that you are on level ground when you check. Good Luck. Phil

It needs to be running when you check. If you open it without it running, it will spill all over. Do a search on here, there is a write up somewhere...

Discovery II models don't have a dipstick. You have to crawl under it. After driving it, with the engine still running in park, crawl under the passenger side and at the front of the trans pan you will see the plug. When correct you will have a 2mm bead of ATF trickling out.

Hope this helps.

I did it with a 5/16 clear tubbing and a funnel bought from LHS. Ran it down from engine bay to the tranny fill port (tied away from exhaust manifold) and filled up till slightly leaking. Then put in fwd and rev. Then I topped off and replaced plug. Any overflow fell into a catch pan. Worked beautifully and didn't have to be under the car while running or when in gear.
