Transmission/Torque converter issues?
Hi everyone,
Quick history leading up to present issues with my 04 Disco SE7. About 158k miles
Replaced Transmission and transfer case
Then was getting SES p0741, transmission would slip on hill start, clunk when coming to a stop and also the car would "jerk" intermittently between 40 and 70mph
Transmission shop "replaced a few seals" and the car ran fine for a few weeks. I've not seen the p0741 code pop up since I took it back to the shop.
Now, for the last few days the jerking has started. It feels like a combination of popping your clutch out at high rpm into a high gear and hitting a medium pot hole at the same time.
Worse on my drive home from work than to work
Doesn't happen under moderate acceleration or while coasting. Only while "cruising" and above 40mph.
Otherwise shifts ok. Sometimes it shifts hard into 2nd when starting from a stop
Again no SES
Thank you for your help

Unless it is very high mileage truck it is unlikely to be your transfer case. Jack the truck up onto axle stands and crawl underneath and check the backlash on the transfer case and both diffs, the backlash should be negligible, i.e. less than 1/25th of a turn, about no more than 5-10mm of rotational movement. The ZF autobox is fairly robust but suffers from a weak flex plate especially on the V8 and the torque converter is another weak point in the autobox. To sum up, check all of the transfer case flanges and the diff flanges for excessive movement and then also check you front and rear driveshafts. If all of these checkout as being OK then unfortunately it may be the flex plate or the torque converter at fault.

If I do find too much play in the driveshafts etc what then?
