ok, did some looking, found out it is indeed my front driveshaft that came free. looks like the ujoint bit the bullet. the aftermarket defender transmission required the previous owner to have to use a slip yolk eliminator? or maybe it's just a yoke extender? either way some of it went as well and without a new one of those, i cant drive it. i called the dealership and they dont have any and can only sell me the entire driveshaft assembly for $800 but it only needs that one piece. i have the original driveshaft and can use some its ujoints as spares. so now i just need that slip yolk eliminator or a yolk extender or whatever it is to get this thing running.

anyone know where i can get one of those?
