Default transmission tunnel

On my 01 discovery 2 I find that if I drive more then 100 km my transmission tunnel gets extremely hot to the touch. Doesn't matter what the outside temperature is 20 above or 40 below. Any help would be great thanks

just clarification the outside or inside of the tunnel? Have you check/ replaced your tranny fluid and filter recently?

Like if I'm inside the rover there is a lot of heat coming from the center console. I took a reading with my laser heat gun and it was reading 60°c by the shifter and 80°c in the box between the front seats. As for the fluid and filter thay where replaced the last time I brought it to rover two months ago.

Exhaust pipes and cats are under there. I noticed it when my carpets were out, but I do not feel any excessive heat with the carpets back in

Don't worry about it.
The engine blows hot air back there when you are moving.
hot exhaust pipes.
The transmission itself heats up to probably 150 degrees when running.

My 1997 D1 - the trans tunnel was always hot.
It went 170,000 miles and is still going.

Right on thanks I've never had a vehicle that had the transmission tunnel get that hot before so thought I'd ask.
