Default Is there Light at the end of the Tunnel?

Hi all,

I have a Freelander 2005 and it's been generally good until now - last week the lights just stopped working.

The relevant fuse had blown so I bought a new one and stuck it in - and it blew - without the ignition/lights being switched on.

2 separate mechanics fiddled around for ages trying to find the short last week to no avail.....and I can take it down to the Landrover dealer locally - at €98 an hour ex vat and fuses. Can't really afford it at the moment - it's a real pain....

Another mechanic said he would look at it tomorrow and am just looking for pointers on how to find where the fault is...

Thanks for letting me vent.

from Driving in the Dark in Ireland.....

Other then you have a bad short, I can't tell you where to look cause I am not familiar with those vehicles.
Do not keep replacing the fuse as you will continue to do more damage.

You can download the factory wiring diagrams to point you in a direction. You can also disconnect the plug for one head light (we assume that is the lights you refer to), try another fuse, and see if the reduced load will work. Usually will be a corroded socket or wire with insulation scraped off.

If you tell us which fuse, perhaps we can point you in a better direction. There are lots of fuses involved with the lights.

i have seen issues with the bumper lights causing wacky issues because one might be blown and the others are incorrect. you need to make sure they are all working and they are correct.

of course we replaced alot of brake light switches under recall but at the same time its possible if you have cheap trailer wiring it might be causing an issue.
