Default truck locked in Parking

Went to an event last night and stoped because i saw the temps going up.
well, the coolant level was low ( afraid of HG )
them, when I started the truck, it will not come out of Parking! needed to unlock the shifter manually to make it home!
Whatts going on? don't know how to check for the shiftter..any clues?
BTW, i really believe have to do HG...
And I bought the Land Rover for my wife because I thought it was a safe reliable truck....

It could be the key or slot got messed up. Or just lube the components under the shifter. Something might got stuck underneath like coin, toothpick, fries etc.
For me its a reliable truck when maintenance is checked. My wife never returned my other truck. She drives it all day long with many stops.

how did you shift it manually? did you lift the shifter cover and depress the solenoid pin or get under the truck and shift it?

shifter lockout solenoid could be activated for several reasons, including brake lights out, bad brake switch, popped fuse, or just bad solenoid. probably just a fluke that it happened when you overheated.

Brake light switch. To confirm, get in the truck, turn the ignition switch to the on position and step on the brake pedal. Check to see whether or not the brake lights come on. You may need a helper. If the brake lights do not come on when the brake pedal is pressed you found the problem. It's a $12 part at the AutoZone near where I live.

X2 on the brake light switch.

There is normally a solenoid you can hear under the gear shift cover whenever you depress the brake pedal. If you are not hearing that and you don't have brake lights, then this is the issue.

And BTW it is a safe reliable vehicle, Once all of the maintenance is up to date and kept that way.

thanks for the replies.
Have brake lights and i definitely can hear the solenoid by the shifter.
This may be weird but when pressing the button on the shifter it appears as is not "engaging" whatever it supposed to engage to release the shifter.
When removing the shifter **** it appears to work.
And yes the unlock was done from inside the truck

If you're hearing the shift interlock when depressing the brake I'd pull the **** off (by pulling hard straight up), and then gently remove the PRND321 bezel. You'll probably find some dimes & loose change hanging out in the shifter area. Remove all debris, and test shifter operation by re-installing the shifter **** and visually inspecting it's movement.
