Default Truck won't start after Heater Core and Head Gasket replacement

Hey guys so the truck has sat about 3 months time total while I worked on these two projects on the weekends. I've done my very best to make sure every connection and wire is in it's place.

When I finally had it all together yesterday I tried to start it and it tried to turn over for a few seconds but wouldn't go. Figuring my battery was low I charged it and when I went to start it this morning i think the battery is worse off than before. The car didn't even attempt to start and it seems i have lost all power. The red light around the key switch is gone and I can hear a clicking noise in the dash.

Ive heard that this is indicates a toast battery on other cars. Is the Disco no different?

Okay well I just had a jump and the truck will start but it won't idle. I gave it a little gas before turning it over. It's not starting correctly. The rpm's jumped way high and I knew it wasn't right so I shut it off.

I should also mention that my battery is only a year old. Is it possible that my alternator is crapping out and can't get the truck to idle? It doesn't explain the spike in rpm's but pumping the gas does.

Yes, your battery may be a year old but after being down for 3 months, it is now a boat anchor, go get it warrantied.
Then install it, reset your inerita switch and lock and unlock the alarm 3 times to reset it.
Let us know what happens.

As Disco Mike said bring the battery back, get a new one.
The high idle issue issue may be as simple as resetting the engine adaptions which includes re setting the closed throttle value (tps). You'll need T4 or scan tool that can reset engine adaptions.

Okay well. I took the battery to a battery specialist in town and he said the battery checked out okay. But the guy was an old man so i really don't know how detailed his assessment was. If it cranks then the battery should be fine, yes? Or could it be weak enough not to hold the charge? I did find a loose throttle cable that I tightened. The truck starts but it is still not running right. I really do not think I missed any connections or wiring. God help me if i left a tool in the valley pan or something. I'm so paranoid right now I want to tear it down right now.

So how is it running at idle and higher speed now? Any other symptoms?

I would say it sounds more normal then before. But I can tell after starting that it starts to stall, so i shut it off. Hold on, I'll go check the rpm.

I can't get a reading on it because the truck doesn't get to idle. It starts, get's an initial rpm jump, then starts to stall.

IACV or vac leak perhaps. Be sure to re-seat connectors on things like MAF and IACV, TPS, etc.

Hi,
Run your code scanner. See if any pending codes. Maybe a pending code which will help you figure out your problem.
Seems rovers aka Discovery II can have codes which have not lit the CEL YET but are pending.
