Default Tune Up?

Just getting started here with fixing the little issues on my '02 Disco (Sheila). The other day when I was filling up I ran fuel numbers for the first time since purchasing late last year. I'm at 8.8 miles per gallon. I have scanned and recovered codes (sorry I don't have the code reader log) that shows no signals from the o2 sensors, bad knock sensors. Without knowing the previous maintenance history (other than knowing that I've repaired some hillbilly repairs), I have purchased the o2 sensors (NTK 25623 / 25624) and the knock sensors from Italy. I also purchased the NGK 3764 spark plugs along with the ACDelco 7mm spark plug wires. What else should I be looking for besides replacing the air filter and the parts listed? I just recently replaced the water pump as it was leaking along the bottom of the gasket.

This vehicle is something I will be keeping for a while. I have slowly been thinning out my toys (I just sold off my '99 and '02 F350 7.3's along with my (2) '03 Sport Tracs) and want to maintain this to a high degree of reliability.

Am I going down the right path by doing a robust tune up? What else could be giving me poor performance? The engine isn't sluggish in power and doesn't throw any smoke. Any help at this point is a bonus.

Paul

Many of us on this forum with years of experience recommend 8mm wires, specifically those made and sold by STI. Otherwise what you are doing looks okay.

#1 is get the O2 and knock sensors working.
#2: is do the PCV 308 mod.
#3: precisely measure and gap your sparkplugs .0.40 each.
#4: clean your MAF with MAF spray.
#5: check your wheel hubs.
#6: new air filter
With the above done, and vehicle cold, clean your tailpipe so that later you can see if your exhaust blackens it indicating too rich fuel/air
If you are still too rich, then consider flow-testing your fuel injectors
