Default Tune up question.

ABout how much should I expect to pay for a tune up. (replacing distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, fuel filters, air filters, PCV valve/filter, O2 sensor, checking ignition wires, setting timing). Something along those lines. I'm sure the price vary's depending where you take it, but I'm trying to get a rough estimate so I don't get gouged.

first you have no fuel filter to replace, you also have no timing to adjust. O2 senors are not part of a tune up and you dont just replace them unless you have money to toss away.

So that leaves you with plugs, cap, rotor, wires, and filters to change.

To be honest and dont take this the wrong way, but if you can not or are not will the do that much, you bought the wrong vehicle.

Unless of course you have a wallet the size of Bill Gate, If that's the case I can do it for you

If a shop quotes you a price for replacing the cap and rotor, run away, your truck doesn't have either of those too.

Yep, we have save you a bunch, just wires and plugs. Try to get 8mm high quality silicon wires. Timing is adjusted on the fly by the ECU independently for each cyclinder, so there are 8 different "advances" at some point.

A used Discovery is frequently a vehicle purchase that turns men and some gals into DIY mechanics. It is a fine hobby, you will be proud of what you have done, and many things on these vehicles can be done with very basic tools and the factory shop manual, called the RAVE. Some dealers are charging $190 an hour for mechanics, indy shops vary, and the money you save yourself can go toward the big stuff you don't want to fool with.

It's a 2001 Disco SE7 with 75k miles. I bought it with 70K on it. I do not know when the last tune up was though. It's run perfectly until it started stalling on occasion about a month ago. I've cleaned Throttle body, Idle air control, dirty air filter, changed Crank Shaft Position Sensor. So i'm hoping at this point with it still happening is either a new MAFSensor or some new plugs and wires. But...I'm slowly getting tired of it giving me trouble. I'd like the mechanic hobby idea if I was actually able to fix it.

At your mileage, if a complete 60,000 mile service was not performed, read my list regarding a Major service, posted at the top of this section, do it all yourself and plan on it costing you around $600 to $700 which would include replacing the front drive shaft if it has not yey been done.
