On my Project D2, I am having a bit of an issue with the turn signals on the passenger side.

Symptoms:

1 - Hit switch to turn left: All signals work fine.

2 - Hit switch to turn right: I get a very quick, short (less than a second), almost woodpecker like noise coming from the relay under the column.

Things I've potentially ruled out:

- Fuses. I pulled them all and there were no issues anywhere.

- Relays. I pulled both, swapped them around and same issues. Took relays off of another known working D2 I have, still same symptoms.

- Headlights work fine, both high and low beams.

- When I hit the hazards switch, first it makes that same woodpecker noise. Then I get no lights on the dash indicating that they are working, but the left side IS flashing and the truck still makes the audible noise that you hear when the signal or hazards are on. Right side still doesnt work.

Electrical things I've done recently:

- I had an issue with the negative connection on the battery terminal. Replaced it. Truck starts and drives fine.

- Climate control unit is not functioning. The Button lights come on with the rest of the dash lights, but I cannot actually operate any functions of the system. Possibly related?

Checked the bulbs of course right? We are chasing a similar issue on my buddies d2 except his only work if he cycles the wipers

Did you look to see if there is a woodpecker down there?

Which relay is the wood pecker noise coming from the removable from the front or the integrated in the back? If its coming off the back side time for a different fuse box.

When you turn the indicate right does it light on dash at all?

Have you jumped the right side indicator lights? This helps rule out a grounding problem.

What is your voltage reading coming off the switch? Right side is GRN/RED

Quickest way to see if the voltage is being transmitted correctly through the circuit (switch, headers, BCU) is to check the signal from the BCU at Header 0293 Grey/Pink wire (there are a few junction-ed its under the dash)

If the signal is good there more than likely you are looking at an integrated failure of the interior fuse box. This is also a likely issue for your other climate control problem if they are related.

If the voltage is not good there check it at the BCU output terminal (if I remember right pin 1).

If not there check headers under the glove box there are six. The one your interested in is Header 0289.

OR.....

You can pull the direction indicator relay. Get voltage readings. If they are reading:

Possible: Interactive driver module (controls flashing).
Possible: Ground but less likely.
Possible: Bulb bad but you already ruled that one out.

Now would be a good time to disassemble the wiper switch and the light switch and clean out the old dried up grease from the contacts, and replace it with Vaseline.


You could use di-electric grease, but Vaseline always works for a tight fit.

 

Turns signals in the rear bumper? Maybe corrosion there? I'm not sure if it would cause the symptoms you have.
