Default Turn signals and wipers issues

When I got my Disco, I noticed that sometimes, when you put the turn signal on (in either direction), it would not activate. Wiggle the stalk a little and it would come on just fine. Happens one out of ten times. So, I figured the stalk is bad and just needs to be replaced. Usually not to difficult, but sometimes a little expensive.

Now, this morning, my wipers would not come on. The washer fluid would squirt just fine, but the wipers would not budge. Turned them on and off a few times and pulled and pushed the stalk a little and they came on, but would not return to the park position automatically. Continued to turn them on and off and pushed and pulled and then they started to work properly. This could also simply be a bad stalk.

But, both stalks being bad at the same time is pushing the envelope ok likely being the actual problem. I am going to try and get some time tomorrow to remove the trim around the column and check the wire harness and connectors into the two stalks. If they are as most cars, I will disconnect the harness connectors and clean them then reseat them to see if it helps. But, replacing the stalks is the most probable step for troubleshooting after that. Does anyone have those two part numbers and any idea on a cost? I am going to check a couple sites this afternoon for prices. Thanks.

For a 03 with only 6x,xxx miles on it, this Disco sure is having a bunch of issues. Turning into a real PIA and going to start calling it the POS. I hope it starts to get a little better, or my Disco ownership days are numbered. I can't stand a vehicle that falls apart one annoying part at a time, without end.

Let me guess...it was a colder moring than normal.
For some odd ball reason this is a very common problem with DII's, I have no freakin' idea why, the DI and DII use the exact same turn/wiper switch(s) and DI's do not have this problem

For some reason the contacts seem to shrink and once the cabin temp warms then they work like normal.

No, it was about 60deg this morning. Not nearly as cold as it has been. I looked up the parts pricing and they are about $150 and $180 for the stalks. Damn sure hate troubleshooting with $330 worth of parts. If it turns out not to be the problem, think they will take them back? I have not dealt with either vendor much, yet.

I agree with you 100%, I wouls look into every other avenue first.
Someone else sujested before that it may be a ECU issue, but I dont know.
Most parts suppliers will not take back installed electrical parts, if you fry the part and then send it back they are out.
I deal with AB almost exclusivly and have never had any problems with them, but then I have never returned anything either.
they did send me for free a replacememnt for a part that came damaged and they let me keep the bad part, which I fixed and then kept as a spare.
It was a light bulb holder for one of my bumper mounted taillights.
