I never paid attention to what a steering stop was,I will get under it this weekend and investigate.

Do they sell the short ones? If so, where?

 

I had bookmarked a site that sold those but don't remember who it was. Maybe someone will chime in. If not I'll try to look through my stuff and see if I can find it.

 

Just found this- ralphobell provides the pic. I have a parts car here so I am going to compare and see if it has the short ones.

Unfortunately I don't have a lathe and I am not manly enough, like Dusty, to get under there and chew them shorter with my teeth...

 

I think they fitted 23mm lockstop on D2 with 16" wheels and 29mm on D2 with 18" wheels. So supposedly the shorter one will only work and not rub if using 16" wheels but, I have read that some are using the shorter ones with 18's and no rubs. so?

 

My Daughters 04' has 18" rims with 255/55/18 tires and it has a tight turning radius. My wife's has 16" rims with 255/65/16 tires and it has a tight turing radius.

The car in question(soon to be my Dad's) has 18" rims with 255/55/18 tires and its turning radius blows!

I originally thought it was the 18" wheels on the car, but my Daughters didn't have the same issue(Not sure what wheels her's came with, it's and SE, when we bought the car it had 22" stormer RR wheels on it!... Ghetto).

The parts car I am going to check on has 18" rims. I will report and get back to you guys.

 

I have read of some taking a little off the ends with an angle grinder or bench grinder. Sounds kinda shade tree but, I guess if you went slow, taking just a little off at a time, and measured with a caliper getting them both the same length, it wouldn't matter how you did it. Might not be pretty but the truck probably wouldn't know the difference if you used a lathe or grinder. If you did take a little too much off you could always put a thin washer or a few washers behind them.

 

That would/will be my technique Dusty. As the owner of a MIG welder and more enthusiasm than welding skill, I have become quite the artist when it comes to use of the grinder.

So Abran, did you put the shorter ones on a truck with 18" wheels? and no rubs?

 

My truck originally had 18" wheels. I put on 16" wheels from a P38 Range Rover when I bought it. When I turn hard left there's no rubbing, but when I turn hard right, the tire rubs the radius arm. If I'm following the previous posts correctly, I should already have the 29mm stops. Would there be any problem if I tried adding a couple of washers to try to keep it from rubbing the radius arm?
