Default Two main problems with my LR

It still dies in idle sometimes, Sometimes it takes all day and sometimes it as soon as i start it for the day. But when i let it sit for about 5-9 minutes it starts right up. I have replaced the IAC valve, and it has a new Air filter...Could it be the fuel pump?

And also, I believe my U-Joints are going out if i press the throttle just a little bit and lift off quick it makes two horrible clunking noises...It sounds like duh DUH. And you can feel it downshifting so hard...Could this be the U-Joints?

DI or DII and how many miles?

I'm not sure about the dying at idle, but the clunk you're hearing is most likely caused by play somewhere in the driveline. Jack up the front, lock the cdl and see if you can spin a wheel a bit. Most of the time this is incurable unless you replace whatever has gained the "play" in it, but it can be treated with new fluids in the diffs, swivel *****, trans case, etc.

Yeah, I agree. You probably have 'slop' in the driveline. It's not uncommon on higher mileage vehilces. Put it in neutral and climb under and shake the rear driveshaft hard with two hands ...see if you can detect any play. You probably have wear in the rear end and xfer case. Mine has a little too.

When you replaced the stepper motor, did you have it re-programmed? It's not a plug-n-play. With 54k miles on a '98, have you done the 60k service on it? Check for vacuum leaks too. Idle problems are usually something simple....

Check your tire PSI to help with the clunk, if one tire is to low the drive line will bind up.
Also worn out gear lube cant protect the gears and it will be really noisy.

As mentioned a little lash is normal when you get on and off the gas, have you checked and greased your u-joints at least once or twice a year?
As for the Idle issue, have you replaced you fuel filter, cleaned you t/body and also decarboned the IAC hole before reinstalling the new IAC?
