Another option is the Plastidip route. I used this on my steelies and so far it is holding up pretty well. I wanted to move away from straight black and went with a color called Brass Monkey. I am happy with how it works with Vienna green. They have other colors.
The wheels are back home. @specops1526 I decided to go rattle can on them in case there is a rock chip on the trail. But I will reach out for the info as I figure I will need the service in the future.
Once my paint comes in I have a little experimenting to do.
I have ordered Giverny Green, Black, and Graphite. I am setting aside the green for now.
Right now this is my thought, which can change easy based on test paints.
Black on the back (to mask the brake dust and profide some depth contrast) and Graphite with a matte clear coat on the front. Rim edge masked/sanded back to metal before clear coat.
I am curious how the matte finish will look. Ill post again once I do the test paints on some spare metal. The spacers are about 3-6 weeks out so these may end up done around the same time.
Oh, if you don't sell your other wheels, then keep them in case you need to remove all the wheels on your truck for some reason. I used to have a spare set and it was nice when I needed them.
My supplies have all come in and I will start setting up my paint tent and getting this started on the 4th.
To aid in the paint job I made up 5 utility grade 20 inch lazy suzans. Since I am doing 2 tone I will work on the backs first then do the front after that it cured. I created a janky chip to see the colors and finish and was worried as the graphite was closer to mica than graphite. But the matte clear coat darkens it up to an acceptable level.
Backs are painted. The lazy suzans helped but I am still not great at painting good part is they are utilitarian so perfection not required. Going to let this cure then start on the front next week.
Quick update: I figured I had a 50/50 chance of doing a poor job and I did. Came out with runs and it was really hard to get the particles to settle evenly at my skill level. I am accepting defeat on the DIY job and will take it to a pro for a redo. It may not be obvious from the image but they are simply sub amature quality. I am ok with a utility paint job but not that utility of a paint job.
Here are some lesson learned.
I like duplicolor primer but I would say I prefer rustoleum paint. The wheel coating paint looks like it would be good for touch ups/paint overs but not ground up (at my skill level)
You cant see from the blasted wheels but the wheel castings are poor quality. This explains the extra thick base coat that comes factory on these wheels. If you go bare metal filler primer is a must for a quality result.
The post may seem like a bummer but I am exited to get these out to a prod and get a great job done on them.

Time to cap this thread off. I went with a darker gray with a matte finish. Got the tires put on today.
It does give th truck a more contemporary look. I like the way it looks, I think the hardest part for me is there are so many ways this truck looks good I cant find a solid preference. Next and last step is to find some nice non cheap janky falls out after 500ft caps for them.
