Default U joints going bad.

I just moved to a new town and my u joints are dying. I dont have anyplace to work on it and i need to take it to a shop. What is the going rate for the job if i need them on both sides. One place guessed at around $500 but he couldn't give me anything solid till he talked to the LR parts guy. They also told me that the wheal bearings should be replaced. Thanks.

OK, year, model and mileage????
Why do you think you need u-joints, do you ever grease them, and why rear wheel bearings?
Are you at all mechanical, so you could replace the joints yourself?

Yeah, I completely forgot to put this in there. 96 disco with 135,000 miles on it. I probably could do it myself except for the fact that I'm living in a hotel for another 3 weeks (apartment isn't ready), and don't have any access to tools or a workspace/lift. I've got a vibration and slight squeak during acceleration and at speeds above 35. The mechanic said that the front u-joints and wheel bearings were the problem, so thats what I asked about. Thanks

I would get a second option on the wheel bearing. Make sure you have the rear u-joints checked and lubed also.
