Default Ugggghhhhh Oil Pump let loose today

Doing about 65 my oil pump let go, I heard it crack and then started rattling badly. Didnt stop in enough time when smoke started pouring from the engine bay.

Damn,
Damn,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. How does an oil pump just let go? Had you done some work on it?

So, now what, are you mechanical and know what to check or is it going to a shop?

Could be as little as burst oil filter or oil cooler line (if equipped) that came apart. Lot of owners are driving around with a cracked oil pump gear, just does not make all the pressure it coul, and sometimes ticks. The oil pump replacement kit is about $115 from AB. Now if it is the front cover cracked, more money; might be able to get one at a junk yard cheap.

yes I have a service shop in Mooresville Nc. its bad, i dont know exactly what the sound was until I pull it apart. but I lost oil pressure and a loud rattling, next the smoke. Im sure the engine is toast. Time to move the 5.3 conversion plan up a bit

Pull A Part Charlotte has a D1 on the yard since 11/30, engine would be $103 plus $16 30 day warranty.

is the 4.0 a direct swap with the 4.6 if I have to modify too much I might as well do the Chevy swap

A Chevy swap? Really? I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before. If there is any kind of inspection in your state, it can't be done. If the engine can be made to physically fit (i.e. drivetrain adapters, accessory mounts, cooling system, exhaust, etc.) integrating the electronics will be very time consuming. A reman block with top-hat liners would make more sense and ultimately cost less.

If you don't relly need the vehicle and have plenty of time, patience and skill and relly want to show that you can make the swap actually work, then go for it. Otherwise, stick with a Rover engine.

I was just at this pull apart a few days ago. They also have a 2000 DII with the engine and upper manifold still attached. Just don't go stealing the CDL because I plan to snag that soon

Sure, they can be interchanged. The only difference is the factory 4.6 came with a slightly more H.D. tranny, ZF24, to handle the extra power.
