Default UK disco 2 passenger side handle

I noticed that the base model D2 in the UK doesn't have passenger side airbags which gives the truck a nice big shelf for throwing things and a grab handle. I'm wondering if anyone in North America has looked into buying the parts from a wrecker in the UK and installing this into a NA Spec D2? I'm guessing you'd need to blow out the airbag and chop the thing out some how? Curious if anyone else has looked into doing this.

I would like it but that darn big round thingy (steering wheel?) keeps getting in the way.

The left and right are the same. Land Rover built the trucks like this so it was easier to seat up the left and right hand drive trucks. So if this unit fits the right it'll also fit the left.

I know I've seen this or a reasonable facsimile offered new in the U.S. but I don't recall where or from what seller. Perhaps I'll poke around and see if I can find it. As for the airbag, you don't need to blow it out. RAVE has instructions for removing it safely. Of course once its out I suppose you could blow it up in your back yard. But be careful.

Be careful who rides in that seat. If you wreck and they are injured because of a lack of an airbag you might get sued and likely lose at that. At least place a "no passenger airbag" warning to protect your assets. I suspect the passenger airbag is DOT required, but I am not sure.
