Default Ultra Guage Temps ok?

Just wanted to see if 200-208 engine temp was normal for my disco 2. Got these temp readouts while driving around town. Stop & go.

Those temps are pretty average. Get a 180 thermostat off amazon and it will bring you down to about 190-195 around town. Very easy job.

The factory thermostat is fully open at 204, so yes those are normal. The auxiliary fan should kick in at 212f.

While the above is factual, at this cooler time of year, do you expect your thermostat to be fully open? Then what will it have in July? My belief is that the normal opening temp should be what you see most of the time. I like my D1 running at 180-183, and up to 187 on freeway; with a 180F stat. In August. I don't want to be at 215, etc.

Is this the soft spring 180 stat everyone keeps raving about? Meaning fully open at 180? Its throwing me off because its not gray.

Amazon Amazon

Just purchased it based off the reviews on Amazon.

Just because your change to this thermo does not mean you will get down slot in temps you could have blockage forming in radiator and this would contribute to your heating up. You will find out after the change of your thermo.

Haha ya that might be true that your radiator is slightly clogged, until your temps get too hot, it doesn't really matter. Put the new thermo in and enjoy your new running temps which should be below 200 all the time.
