Default UltraGauge Fuel Consumption

I was wondering what UltraGauge polls in the ECU for fuel consumption, fuel level, or anything MPG related? Im trying to find out how reliable those numbers are?

LOL, I think everyone thought you wanted a poll on what their ultra gauge is reading.
I know some Take your injector pulse timing, and fuel pressure, and measures it against engine speed, engine load, wheel speed and mileage. I do not use an ultra gauge, so I can't say for sure. I know on my iPhone app that connects to wifi obd2 reader, I have to input other info to get a more accurate reading, total frontal area, drag coefficient, tire size(if other than stock) for correct mph, volumetric efficiency. Obviously some of those things are an estimate, so I would think the result would be just that.

I have used my scangauge II for the last 5 years on my smart car, rarely is the instant MPG or even the average MPG correct. I use the old pen and paper method to determine MPG and even that is averaged over at least 3 tanks of gas. It is useful to notice when your MPG drops because of your driving or local conditions.

With real-time fuel usage, UltraGauge can quickly answer those age-old fuel efficiency questions specifically for your vehicle:

Is it better to drive with the windows down or use the air-conditioner?
Tailgate up or Down?
Do truck tailgate & bed accessories help fuel economy?
Is fuel usage significantly affected by tire inflation?
Which gear is best when climbing grades?
Which speed delivers optimal fuel economy?
Does engine braking use more fuel?
Does fuel usage change based on altitude?
Although dangerous, does drafting really help?
and many more....
With UltraGauge it’s instant and easy!

Ultraguage offers the ability to optimize fuel usage accuracy with an optional fuel calibration feature.

Unlike MPG gauges found in high-end vehicles, UltraGauge is not limited to displaying a maximum of 99 MPG, UltraGauge displays up to 999 MPG.

See mine is showing 17 MPG, all stock config. I was really asking about the Fuel Level reading though, which I've been using to gauge when to fill up. I noticed my fuel light comes on with almost 8 gallons left, but I just wanted to make sure this fuel level reading was anything close to correct.

As far as I know the UG has no way to know how much fuel is in your tank unless you manually tell it when you fill up and specify the tank capacity... The low fuel light is supposed to come on with approx. 2.5 gallons left.

Did the UG tell you that you had 8 gallons left or did you fill up when the light came on and it only took 17 gallons?

I've never heard that the UG is a reliable measure of mileage. The old fashioned way is the only way to measure accurately I believe.
