UltraGauge Fuel Consumption
What do you mean STB? Yes, there is a miles to empty gauge you can add, I try to keep an eye on the Fuel Level in Gallons to see how much is left. My problem is that some gas pump shut off before the tank is really full. I try to watch what I put in vs what UG is telling me should have gone in.
Robert,
The Ultragauge website has an online manuals which talks about the different fuel, mileage and mpg settings. If I recollect correct;y, Ultragauge offers an instantaneous mpg calculation. It also offers some sort of low and high "threshold" type fuel settings whereby you feed the fuel capacity info into Ultraguage. It then performs calculation based on the fuel burn rate (from the engine sensor) and the fuel tank capacity (based on the value which you enter) to arrive at the "average mpg".
I am aware UG also provides reading for short trip mpg, trip mpg, etc. Unfortunately, I did not read the entire manual.
The online manual in the Ultragauge website may be a good start. UG also has a forum where you may be able to ask the question of the administrator (aka the UG vendor).

Yes that's my understanding, I just wasn't sure what sensor was polled for the fuel burn rate and how reliable it is. Is that a sensor in the fuel pump or the injectors?
MPG on my UltraGauge seems pretty accurate although I've never tested it against an old fashioned calculation. I typically get ~12.8 mpg around town and up to ~15 on the highway.
It reads the miles from the ECU so if you have taller tires you might be getting more actual MPG than UG shows, just as the truck's actual speed would be greater than what the speedometer shows.
I don't know for sure how it meters fuel consumption, but I'm guessing it must be from it knowing how long each injector is open in each in intake stroke and knowing the injector flow rate.

I just did a 1200 mile trip... Costco premium E10 on the first 330 miles, 15.2 mpg analog method.
Middle 300 miles... Chevron Supreme non ethanol 10 gallon top off of later batch of Costco premium with one can Seafoam, 17.8 mpg. Similar terrain freeway/highway 55-75 mph. Sport mode off no cruise control.
I do notice that the Costco premium does not deliver the same power that the Chevron gas does. They do go through the volume so it must be something else making the difference... IE: higher ethanol content.
