Default Unbolting the Disco Roof

I have heard that you can unbolt the roofs from disco 1's I have romoved some panels on the rear of my disco to get to some rust spots under the roof windows not the sunroofs, when i did this i noticed a couple of bolts that look like the hold the roof on. I was wondering if the roof can be unbolted because i have access to a parts disco and wanted to know if i could swap roofs.

Roof is spot welded on, so unless you want a LOT of messy work, I would forget the idea !!

Spot welds aside how much of it would actually come off? A convertibel Disco would be really cool. Naturally you could chop the whole thing off but how much is "bolted" down?

None of the Disco roof is bolted down. Chopping the top is an invloved job as much of the wiring to the rear of the truck is run along the top, also, one loses much of the structural integrity of the body when you cut the top off-the back doors won't line up if you wish to retain them.

There are pics of just such a project in progress at the bottom of the page, btlrovers.com.

There is a guy on dweb with a DII that he did that to and put a canvas top on it. It looks stupid as all get out.
But hey, each to his own.

A convertable Range Rover. It actually looks pretty cool. Looks like it belongs on Fantasy Island.

That does actually look pretty cool. I was skeptical but it doesn't look half bad...
