Default Unwanted tenants in cold air intake and air box

It seems a mouse has moved into my cold air intake - I guess it's getting in by the fender. I found rodent evidence on top of the air filter while the vehicle sat for a bit and I found more evidence underneath the filter. I'll have to remove the intake and clean it before reinstalling.

Has anyone worked out a way to prevent these pests from getting in through the fender?

Thank you

I don't think you can keep a mouse out of anything this side of a biologically sealed room.

I’ve been having rat and or squirrel issues. I don’t think I’m to the bottom of it yet but I’ve done a couple of things that seem to work or at least help. There are plug in ultrasonic devices that seem to deter them, either park near the device or even mount it in your engine bay. The other thing I did a month or two ago was spray the area with some expired bear spray. I don’t know yet if this is a good long term solution (eg is it corrosive, does it mellow to a taste they love etc) but it seems to work. I haven’t noted any smell inside the vehicle, but mine were in the engine bay not interior air intake. Good luck, rodent’s aren’t easy to get rid of.

Thanks - I have hardware cloth and a copper alloy mesh that's like steel wool or chain mail. I'm just hoping the mesh would still allow enough air flow.

I think I might have to try one of those ultrasonic devices. A friend has a device you can hear (it's not ultrasonic, or maybe it's generating ultrasonic noise along with audible tones) in his truck every 15 minutes and it's pretty annoying, but chewed wiring would be worse.

Supposedly it's the strength of certain sprays like mint oil that burns their eyes or sinuses, so that could be why the bear spray has been working, although it will need to be refreshed at some point.

Yeah so far so good with the bear spray. No rodents and so far no Ill effects. It was really a bit of a desperation move on my part.

I wonder if leaving some moth ***** on the intake side of the filter would work, seems to when I winterize other cars. Would the vapor or sublimation adversely affect the engine?
