Thumbs up Upgrade auto transmission

Hi to All,

My name is Kenneth, I drive an '03 Discovery II 4.0 litre V8 and I am new to this Forum. I was wandering if any of you ever exchanged/upgraded the original 4 speed auto transmission to maybe a 5 or 6 speed? Does anything even exist?

Thanks

I think the lack of response, Ken, may be due to the fact that unless you have your own fully equipped shop and years of automotive experience, you don't want to get involved in a project like that. I'm no Rover expert, but I have been around modified cars & trucks for a long time, and the can of worms you will be opening is not worth the effort!

I believe Ive read on Dweb that France has a manual D2 tranny for the V8.

I dont know how hard it would be to get one here though.

And your engine computer is programmed to talk with the tranny computer constantly. Swap to a six speed automatic would be complex for a DIY garage. Unless you are pals with Ironman Tony Stark. Then you could slide in a 9 speed from an Evoque....

Back to the real world, enjoy what you have, maintain it with open check book, think about CDL if you don't have the locking lever, and maybe after market lockers. But certainly an aftermarket shaft for that prone-to-snap front drive shaft.

Also, why do you have a 4.0 in your 03? Did you replace the engine?

I can't remember who said it but the only way Americans learn any geography is by where we wage war. Ask most Americans to find Iraq or Afghanistan on a map and they wouldn't have been able to twenty years ago. I think it's funny/sad that the diplomat from the Czech Republic had to explain through the American media after the Boston Marathon bombing that his country was not the same as Chechnya.

To be fair, I do know geography quite well compared to the majority of Americans. Most people ask "what state is that in" when I tell them I'm from Vermont...

Zack, I didn't mean for you to take that personally. I am just amazed when I see studies that indicate that kids in the US have a hard time locating places in the world that really aren't that obscure.
